After a death or a crime in a Fridley home, the steps are a little different from Minneapolis because Fridley is in Anoka County. Here is what to expect.

A different medical examiner

Deaths in Fridley go to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office at 14341 Rhinestone Street NW in Ramsey, 763-324-4400, not to the Hennepin County office.

Its investigators travel from their homes to the place of death, so expect a wait before one arrives. Your relative will usually stay at the examiner's office for about a day before the funeral home collects them (family brochure).

Fridley police

In Anoka County you dial 911 for police matters whether or not they are emergencies. Fridley's Police Division, at 7071 University Avenue NE, also has an office number, 763-572-3629, for questions (City of Fridley).

Ask the officer when the home will be released and write down the case number.

When the cleanup can start

Once the police and the examiner's investigator have left and said the home is yours, keep the room closed and call when you are ready. The cleanup company works for you, not for either office.

When you are ready, call

You will speak with an independent cleanup company that works in and around Minneapolis. Describe what happened in your own words and ask what they would do. You decide whether to go ahead.
